A Reminder for When You Are in a Depressive Episode

I think a lot of us forget what depression does to your mind. How it impacts your thoughts, and consumes them. I want to take a minute to explain how it feels to me and let it be a reminder for the next time you feel yourself in a depressive episode.

While you are in a depressive episode / state, your mind will play tricks on you. These are all temporary feelings and thoughts that are being consumed AND controlled by depression. This is what depression does to you. The thoughts alone are enough to eat you alive, to make you want to do anything to make them stop--such as take your own life or harm yourself. I know how hard it can be to fight these thoughts, but you HAVE to. You have to remind yourself that it's just the depression talking. You have people that love you and care about you, despite the depression trying to tell you otherwise. It does get better. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, it may be hard to see at times, but it is there. You have to try your hardest to find the light again. Most of the time, it resides within you. Go find it again, for yourself.

Just because you feel this way right now does not mean you will feel like this forever. Be patient and kind to yourself during a depressive episode. However, try to not let the thoughts consume you or make you do something you will regret. If you end the pain, you never have a chance to feel anything ever again--good or bad. Give yourself the chance to feel good again. This pain is only temporary. These feelings are only temporary. Make it through the bad so you can get to the good again. You've done it before, you can do it again, I promise.
